T bus booklet. This project is more or less finished, with the addition on the website of 6 more bus walks (longer walks and/or from the Halifax/Rochdale/Burnley through buses). A very helpful by-product of this project has been the remedial work done on local footpaths by CROWS (Community Rights of Way Services – a co-operative based in Hebden Bridge)

Website The website continues to be developed, and material is always welcome, particularly photographs of walks you have done. Local walking groups are invited to produce their own page for the TodWalkers website. Contact Alan at webhelp@todwalkers.org.uk

Walkers are Welcome. This is an on-going project to accredit Todmorden as a Walkers are Welcome town. We have received a lot of useful advice on this from Hebden Bridge Walkers Action Group, who worked for Hebden to become the first Walkers are Welcome town. We are aiming to be ready for accreditation in March 2016, but there is still a lot of work to be done. If you are interested in helping with this project, please contact us here: hello@todwalkers.org.uk

Glossary. This glossary of local terms for natural and man-made features of our local landscape is about to be published on the website. We would like to illustrate it with any photos you might have – send them to webhelp@todwalkers.org.uk. We would like to create a leaflet from this project too.

Future projects/The way forward

We will continue with existing projects, and we will facilitate any new projects that members propose. Some of the ideas around at the moment are:

  • Creating walks in the valley using the railway system…….leading to
  • Developing a strategy (with Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd) for the promotion of the Upper Calder Valley as a walking area easily accessible from the major conurbations of Manchester and Leeds
  • A stay-on- the- bus guide to the local landscape (a not infrequent request from people who use the local buses)
  • A bibliography on the website of all the available books and guides to walking in/from Todmorden
  • Developing a guide to the Calderdale Way starting from Todmorden, going north or south, staged, with transport routes back to Todmorden from each stage, and identified accommodation possibilities en route for those who wish to complete the full circle in one go.

If you would like to get involved in any of these, or you have an idea of your own for a project, please contact Robin at ideas@todwalkers.org.uk
